There are many reasons why a man may ejaculate prematurely. Sometimes it can be attributed to a mental response such as becoming excited too quickly and losing control, while other times it may be due to a biological condition. New evidence suggests that an individuals physiology may also play a role in premature ejaculation. One specific element of penile anatomy in particular, the frenulum, may be directly linked to the occurrence of premature ejaculation in some men.

Penis Frenulum

The frenulum, full name frenulum of prepuce of penis, is the elastic membrane of tissue located on the underside of the penis directly beneath the glans (penis head). You can see it as slightly highlighted in color in the attached picture. This area of skin contains many nerve endings and is very responsive to touch and light stimulation.

The frenulum connects the foreskin on the underside of the penis to the glans and can vary in size and shape. In some cases all or part of the frenulum is amputated during circumcision which can diminish sexual sensation and orgasm intensity.

Premature Ejaculation and Frenulum Length

In previous articles we've explained that there are different types of premature ejaculation and in some cases the condition can be related to penile sensitivity. New studies have suggested that there may also be a direct relationship between premature ejaculation and the actual length of the frenulum.

In one study† recently published in the Andrologia Medical Journal, researchers conducted an experiment with 12 subjects suffering from premature ejaculation whose frenula were short. After lengthening the frenulum of each patient, all subject reported satisfied sexual intercourse within a period of 3-6 months. They concluded that premature ejaculation might be treated by lengthening the frenulum.

Another earlier study†† published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found the presence of short frenulum in a high percentage of subjects with lifelong premature ejaculation. In fact, of the 137 test subjects evaluated in the study, nearly half (43%) were found to have short frenula.

Source: †Andrologia / DOI: 10.1111/j.1439-0272.2010.01099.x
Source: ††Journal of Sexual Medicine / DOI: 10.1111/j.1743-6109.2009.01661.x

Lengthening the Frenulum

Both of the above mentioned studies employed a surgical procedure known as frenulectomy in order to lengthen the frenulum and alleviate premature ejaculation. While this method has shown to be effective, there are always certain risks involved with any type of surgery.

One possible technique for lengthening the frenulum that doesn't involve surgery is through manual stretching of the penis. It has already been suggested that penis traction devices that stretch and lengthen the penis may also help cure sexual dysfunction. Using a penis extender device to naturally elongate the frenulum over time may work to reduce the likelihood of ejaculating prematurely during sex.

While having a short frenulum is not always the cause of premature ejaculation, it is still something to consider if you are one of the many men suffering from this dysfunction.

Men have probably been measuring their penises for as long as measuring instruments have existed. There's just some sort of uncontrollable curiosity which compels us to discover the exact dimensions of our penis. While it's easy enough to determine penile length and width using a ruler or measuring tape, some believe that these methods are simply too imprecise. One man in particular, who comes into the spotlight in a rather unconventional manner, has come up with his own design which he feels will revolutionize the practice of penis measuring.

A Brief Background

Before we look at the actual invention, I'd like to take a moment to explain how I was first made aware of this information. As it turns out, one of our readers came across an article that he thought we would find interesting and forwarded us a link to the story. This article, published here on the Washington Post, tells of the inventor husband of a woman who stars on a television show called "The Real Housewives of D.C."

I have never watched the program and have little actual interest in the show itself but I must admit that I was intrigued by the topic of the article. Apparently the man mentioned in the above story, Jason Turner (husband of D.C. Housewife Stacie Turner) is the inventor of something called a "Penile Volumetric Measuring Device." I decided to do a little research to uncover more about this penis measuring invention.

Penile Volumetric Measuring Device

United States Patent 7,147,609
Filed: November 22, 2004
Inventor: Jason E. Turner / December 12, 2006

In a summary background of the invention Jason talks about the growing interest men have with the size of their penis and the need for a more accurate way of performing measurements. If you'd like to read the complete text it can be found on the patent page. I was more interested in the actual operation of the device itself.

Abstract:

"A volumetric measuring device for measuring a body part. The device includes a fluid container filled with fluid. The fluid container has a body part opening for permitting the insertion of a body part and a displaced fluid opening for permitting the flow of fluid that has been displaced as the result of inserting the body part. A watertight barrier covers the body part opening and maintains a watertight seal over the body part opening while the body part is being inserted. The volumetric measurement is determined by measuring the amount of displaced fluid after the insertion of the body part through the body part opening. In a preferred embodiment, the body part being measured is an erect penis."

There are 6 potential designs listed, or "Preferred Embodiments" as they are called on the patent page. Most of these are just variations on the components of 2 main designs. The primary difference between these two designs seems to be in how the penis actually fits into the device. The first calls for the penis to be inserted through the bottom of a container [See Fig. 1] while the second uses a side entry [See Fig. 12].

Both designs work on the very simple principle of fluid displacement. Basically you have a container of water that is marked with measurements to show the total amount of fluid contained in the vessel. When an erect penis is inserted into the container a certain amount of fluid is displaced (pushed out). Once the penis is removed, the level of water drops and you are able to correlate that amount of displaced liquid with the actual volume of the penis.

All of the images associated with this patent can be viewed by clicking the link located in the sidebar (see below Penis Measuring Device).

Penile Displacement Number (PDN)

Here's where it gets a little interesting. The volume of displaced fluid is generally measured in cubic centimeters (cc). So by that standard you would then be referring to the size of your penis in cc. For instance:

"A very well endowed human male having an erect penis having length 12 inches and diameter of 2.5 inches may have an erect penis that has a volume of approximately 964 cubic centimeters. In comparison, a more typical male may have an erect penis size of approximately 6 inches and diameter of 1.75 inches. This more typical male will then have an erect penis that has a volume of approximately 236 cubic centimeters."

Although this type of measurement may be scientifically precise, it can be a bit confusing for the average person. It's probably safe to say that most people would have no idea how big a penis actually was if it was described in cubic centimeters! To address this problem, the inventor has come up with his own measuring scale:

"Applicant has noted that it is potentially confusing to compare or categorize human male penis size if the scale being utilized is cubic centimeters. Therefore, Applicant has devised his own scale which he refers to as 'penile displacement number' or 'pdn'. Preferably, the scale is designed so that the average male has a pdn of 100. By designing the scale so that the average size penis is 100 pdn, it makes this preferred embodiment more appealing to the average user. Applicant believes that it is more of a positive reinforcement to the user to say that he has a '100 pdn' rather than saying that he has a '23 pdn' or a '24 pdn'. Hence, in one embodiment, assuming that the volumetric displacement of the average erect penis is 236 cc, a preferred conversion factor between penile displacement number and cubic centimeters is 1 pdn=2.36 cc. Using this conversion factor a well-endowed male porn star having a penis volume of 964 cubic centimeters would instead refer to his erect penis as having a pdn of 408.5. Or, he might say that his penis size is 408.5 pdn. In comparison, an average male having a penis volume of 236 cubic centimeters would instead refer to his erect penis as having a pdn of 100. Or, he might say that his penis size is 100 pdn."

So based on this new scale, an average male would refer to the size of his penis as 100 pdn instead of 236 cc. If his penis was above that size then it would give others an indication of how much larger than average his penis was. For instance a pdn of 110 is equivalent to a penis which is 10 percent bigger than average.

The Future of Penis Measuring?

The penile volumetric measuring device appears to be an incredibly precise instrument for gauging penis size. That being said, I'm not convinced that it will ever replace the much more simple method of penis measuring which employs rulers or tape. I'm not even sure why there's a need for such accurate measurements.

It's also a bit difficult to imagine men adopting a new measurement scale (pdn) in place of already easily recognizable measurements such as inches and centimeters. Perhaps health professionals might have a use for it.

I do applaud the inventor for coming up with this revolutionary penis measuring device. Mr. Turner is obviously a very intelligent individual and it will be interesting to see if there's a future for his invention.

The human penis comes in all shapes and sizes. There are penises that are short, long, skinny, fat and everything else in between. Some penises appear small when flaccid (soft) but grow tremendously in size when erect. Others may already look large without being erect but really don't seem to change all that much when they become hard. With all these different variations, one question still remains: Is there such a thing as a perfect or ideal penis size? Some feel the answer to that question can be found using a simple bit of math.

How Do You Measure Up?

Have you ever taken the time to actually measure your penis? If you're like most men then the answer is probably yes. The fascination we have with our penises is something all men share since early childhood. Wanting to know exactly how big we are is simply the normal progression of that curiosity.

If you've never before measured your penis, let's take a moment now to determine your erect length. All you will need is a ruler (and an erection). You can make sure that you're measuring correctly by reading these penis measuring instructions – see the section on "Measuring The Erect Length".

Once you have that measurement, write it down on a piece of paper and place it to the side. Next we'll do a bit of math to determine if your penis size supposedly correlates with your overall physical size.

The "10% Rule"

According to some, the size of your penis should be directly proportional to the height of your body. This is known as the 10% Rule. It simply states that your erect penis length should be approximately 10% of your body height.

For instance, let's say that you are 5 feet 8 inches tall. The first thing you need to do is to convert your height into inches only. Since 1 foot equals 12 inches, your total height in inches will be 68 (5 feet = 60 inches, plus the additional 8).

Now take that number (68) and multiply it by .10 (10 percent). The result will be 6.8 inches. According to the 10% rule, your penis should be equal to that measurement when erect.

Reality Isn't Perfect

If your penis size doesn't match the prediction, don't worry. This measurement represents only what some people believe is the perfect penis size for your body. It is far from a hard and fast rule and you may just as soon find that your penis is either bigger or smaller than predicted.

If you have practiced any method of natural penis enlargement then the results are most likely way off. Some techniques like those that involve stretching devices, exercises or penis enhancement supplements can add upwards of 3 inches to your length which will greatly skew the results.

In reality, there is no such thing as a perfect penis size. Just as each man is unique, so too is each penis. To assume that such an ideal size exists is nothing more than wishful thinking.

The perfect sized penis is the one that you are comfortable with and that your partner enjoys. There is of course nothing wrong with wanting to increase your size. Just keep in mind that perfection exists, like many things, only in the eye of the beholder.

Modern methods for naturally increasing the size of the penis commonly involve some type of physical manipulation. In some cases this might take the form of manual stretching such as when performing specific penis exercises. Other times a device such as a penis extender is employed to generate a static and prolonged stretch of the fine penile tissue. In either instance, a palpable force is necessary to initiate the growth response that creates the increase in penis size. Here we'll look at the biological mechanisms behind those techniques that actually enables natural penis enlargement to occur.

Before we go into detail I'd like to make clear that understanding these scientific principles is in no way a prerequisite to achieving results. Men use penis stretching methods every day to increase the size of their penis without any advanced knowledge of the underlying processes at work. This article is merely an attempt to explain the biological functions that allow these methods to accomplish their goal.

For those only interested in actually attaining a bigger penis, our list of penis enlargement recommendations is there to help point you in the right direction.

The Basics

Most commercially available systems for penis enlargement make some brief mention about how results are achieved. They usually explain how the act of penis stretching opens up small spaces between cells which begins the process of cell division and multiplication. This ultimately results in the accumulation of tissue mass and subsequent penile size increases.

This explanation while general, does provide users with an adequate understanding of how natural penis enlargement is possible. Let's go a step further and now interject some scientific research to better comprehend what's occurring at the molecular level.

Satellite Cells

As explained in a recently published scientific journal:

"In undamaged postnatal muscle fibers with normal contraction and relaxation activities, quiescent satellite cells of resident myogenic stem cells are interposed between the overlying external lamina and the sarcolemma of a subjacent mature muscle fiber. When muscle is injured, exercised, overused or mechanically stretched, these cells are activated to enter the cell proliferation cycle, divide, differentiate, and fuse with the adjacent muscle fiber, and are responsible for regeneration and work-induced hypertrophy of muscle fibers."†

So physical interaction with muscle fiber, which includes exercising or other mechanically-induced stretching, triggers a response within otherwise normally inactive cells (called satellite cells). This begins the cycle of cell division and proliferation. But what mechanism actually translates this mechanical stimulation into the chemical signals necessary to activate the satellite cells? This from the same publication:

"Recent studies of satellite cells or single muscle fibers in culture and in vivo demonstrated the essential role of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and nitric oxide (NO) radical in the activation pathway. These experiments have also reported that mechanically stretching satellite cells or living skeletal muscles triggers the activation by rapid release of HGF from its extracellular tethering and the subsequent presentation to the receptor c-met. HGF release has been shown to rely on calcium-calmodulin formation and NO radical production in satellite cells and/or muscle fibers in response to the mechanical perturbation, and depend on the subsequent up-regulation of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity. These results indicate that the activation mechanism is a cascade of events including calcium ion influx, calcium-calmodulin formation, NO synthase activation, NO radical production, MMP activation, HGF release and binding to c-met."†

† Source:Animal Science Journal / 10.1111/j.1740-0929.2009.00712.x

As you can see, quite a lot happens within the tissues when mechanical incitement is initiated. In particular, the stimulation of satellite cells and muscle fibers causes the release and production of various chemical compounds.

But how does this interaction with muscle fibers relate to the penis, an organ that many would most certainly agree is not a "muscle."

Understanding Penile Physiology

Perhaps the biggest misconception about natural penile enlarging, particularly penis exercising, stems from a lack of understanding about the organ's physiology. The usage of the term "exercise" in regards to penis enlargement also adds to the confusion.

When one thinks of performing an exercise, it is fairly common to imagine some form of strenuous flexing done in order to build muscle. This is not the case with penis exercising. Instead this refers to the stretching and massaging of the penis using specific techniques. The penis does however contain muscle fibers which can be stimulated through these actions.

The Peripenic Muscle

The entire penile skin system and scrotum is lined with what is called the dartos muscle sheet. It is also known as the "peripenic muscle" because it wraps around the entire penis [see image].

This powerful muscle is composed of smooth muscle fibers that run parallel to the shaft of the penis. It is an involuntary and highly responsive muscle which contracts and relaxes in response to touch, temperature and sexual excitement.

The unique composition of the penis was noted in 1916 by a hospital pathologist by the name of Geoffrey Jefferson. Upon microscopic inspection of penile tissue samples, Mr. Jefferson was astonished by the amount of muscle tissue in his specimens and the complex connections of the peripenic muscle within the penis muscular structure. He also discovered that the development and strength of the entire muscle varied greatly from one individual to another.

As reported in his findings:

"The peripenic muscle is doubtless the cause of the remarkable rugosity usually exhibited by the removed prepuce or the prepuce under the stimulus of cold. These rugae are in the main arranged transversely, but innumerable minute ridges are superposed upon these. There can be no doubt but that the purpose of the muscle is to adapt the skin to the varying volume of the organ, as the changes are greater than could be accommodated by the elasticity of the skin alone."††

†† Source:The Circumcision Reference Library

The significance of this observation relates to the method by which mechanical stimulation of the penis influences development of muscle fiber. If penile stretching were to only affect the outward covering of the shaft, any increases observed during the practice of penis enlargement would be constrained to the skin. Instead, physical manipulation directly impacts the muscle sheath itself which results in enlargement of the entire penis.

In Conclusion

The natural reactions that mechanical stimulation brings about within both cells and muscle fibers are intricate yet scientifically plausible. While this information may be nonessential for the vast majority of men seeking to improve penis size, I believe it does provides some valuable insight into the complex interactions that occur during the practice of penis enlargement.

Keep in mind, there is no magic involved in enlarging the penis… it's simply the body at work. When you begin to understand the responsiveness of the body to outside stimuli, it's easy to conceive how growth becomes the natural byproduct.

Personally, I like to think that there's a "well-hung" guy in each man just waiting to get out. Once you have the proper tools at your disposal, it's only just a matter of time before you achieve your goal.

One of the primary benefits touted by natural penis enlargement systems, aside from the obvious one of increased size, is that of a reported boost in self-confidence. While it may seem a foregone conclusion that a man with a larger penis will exhibit greater confidence levels thereby improving his odds of mating success, the way in which a man outwardly portrays himself is really just one component in determining overall sexual attractiveness. Far less obvious than visual cues but equally significant, the scent a man exudes has also been shown to play a role in how he is perceived by potential mates.

Scent-Based Attraction

Both men and women each broadcast a unique odor print that lets possible partners determine suitability. This barely detectable scent, not to be confused with the body odor generated by bacteria, is actually an outward manifestation of immune-system genes called human leukocyte antigens, or HLA's. It is this particularly subtle odor signature that allows a bloodhound to distinguish one individual from another. As it turns out, women are also quite adept at picking up these signals.

Her Nose Knows

When it comes to distinguishing smells, it appears that women are far superior to men. This is not due to any actual biological differences. In fact, both sexes share the exact same physiological wiring. Instead it seems women are simply better at extracting specific information from scent. This inherent talent stems from a female's ability to gather and process information from a more emotional perspective. While men in general tend to suppress and ignore emotional indicators, women instead focus on them.

The underlying mechanism which allows for this transfer of information is powered by the chemical molecules known as pheromones. These pheromones dictate a behavioral response between individuals of the same species. For those that are more attune to detecting them, such as females, they also convey mood.

Your Smell Communicates Your Mood

If a man is experiencing stress, a woman will know. If he's feeling confident and self assured, that too will be conveyed through the unspoken communication of scent. Oddly enough, while women can effectively mask their own scent with perfumes and fragrances, the same is not true for men. Even when covered with strong cologne a woman can still detect the underlying odor of a man.

Not too surprisingly, women are generally more attracted to men who broadcast confidence. Although this in itself is no real indicator of penis size, it may be that women subconsciously associate confidence with sexual prowess. Research has shown that well-endowed men do tend to display a greater amount of self-assurance.

While this is in no way a determination that women can somehow "smell" how large a man's penis is, there is a growing body of evidence that suggests the female predilection for detecting emotional cues. Since women are attracted to confident men, utilizing a penis enlargement solution that results in elevated confidence levels is a valuable asset for any man.

The benefit of increased confidence that comes from practicing penis enlargement methods is not to be underestimated. If anything, this byproduct of increased penis size should be considered one of the main objectives. A large penis may be the desired end result but the ultimate goal remains increased desirability and sexual attraction. While confidence can be faked, women have a peculiar ability to "sniff out" the truth.

How long does it take a man to recover after ejaculating before he is ready and/or able to ejaculate again? While there is no absolute answer to that question, there are a number of determining factors that directly influence the length of time necessary between successive ejaculations. In this article we'll examine what some of those factors are and possible ways to improve the sexual experience by reducing that period of recovery.

The Refractory Period

Technically speaking, the time directly after ejaculation during which it is impossible to achieve additional orgasms is known as the "refractory period." If you've ever experienced an orgasm then you know exactly what this is. In simple terms it means that you lose your erection and (usually) the desire to continue sexual activities for a certain period of time — this is not necessarily a predetermined outcome as we'll soon discuss.

The Age Factor

Age is one of the main factors that determines how long a man must wait before he is able to ejaculate again. In general, the younger you are the faster you're able to recover. Men in their sexual prime, usually considered to be between the ages of 18-22, can often ejaculate within 15 minutes of previous release. As we age our bodies usually become less responsive and it may take up to as long as several hours before we're capable of reaching orgasm again.

Arousal and Abstinence

While aging is a process that none of us control, there are other more tangible influences that directly impact our ejaculation experience; namely arousal and abstinence.

The extent to which you are aroused (excited, horny) can have a lasting effect on your sexual performance. If you're with someone who really has you turned on then the act of ejaculation may not necessarily signal the end of intercourse. Don't forget that the brain is the largest sexual organ in the body and it can often override any physiological limitations we may normally experience. Although it's not the most common response, maintaining an erection after ejaculation and continuing to have sex until a second orgasm occurs is not unheard of.

An important factor that often determines our level of arousal is how long it's been since our previous sexual experience. If the period of abstinence between ejaculations is long, it's likely that a new experience will be extremely intense. There's also a good chance that your heightened libido will have been working overtime and semen production will have increased.

Amount of Ejaculate

The volume of semen that is ejected from the penis during ejaculation can vary considerably. It can be affected by your level of arousal, the amount of time that has passed since previous ejaculation and even the duration of stimulation leading up to ejaculation. When there is a greater amount of semen produced in the body, there are more contractions and the act of ejaculating is prolonged. It can also mean that even after the final contraction, your body may still retain a significant amount of fluid available for additional discharge. This may be represented by a feeling of heaviness within the testicles.

It should be noted that there are also commercially available products known as "semen volumizers" which are designed to increase the amount of ejaculate produced. While many use these herbal supplements purely as an aid to increasing ejaculate volume, they indirectly help increase the intensity of ejaculation as well as speed up recovery time.

There are many different areas of penis enhancement. Some men focus on enlargement of the penis while others seek to prolong intercourse or improve performance. The ability to shorten the length time from one ejaculation to the next and thereby extend the pleasure of each experience is yet one more important aspect of sexual self-improvement.

The male body contains many sexually sensitive areas, or erogenous zones, that serve to stimulate the sex drive and enhance pleasure. While the amount of pleasure experienced with the stimulation of each area varies from one man to the next, there are certain locations on the body that tend to rank higher than others in terms of overall sexual satisfaction. One recent study published in the British Journal of Urology attempts to gauge the amount of genital sensitivity experienced by men in order to rank these specific erogenous zones.

Genital Sensitivity Study

Encompassing a small sampling of healthy and sexually active men ages 22-64, the BJUI Study concluded that the stimulation of the following areas of the body provided the most sexual satisfaction. These areas are ordered by degree of erotic pleasure from highest (most satisfaction) to lowest (least satisfaction):

Underside of the glans (head of the penis)

Underside of the penile shaft

Upper side of the glans

Left and right sides of the glans

One or both sides of the penis

Upper side of the penile shaft

Foreskin

Skin between the scrotum and anus

Back side of the scrotum

Front side of the scrotum

Around anus

Other body parts that increased pleasure when stimulated included the ear, neck, breast/nipples, buttocks, inside of the anus, wrist and armpit area.

In addition to these findings, it was also observed that stimulation by a partner increased the amount of sexual pleasure over self-stimulation.

While these results by no means apply to all men, I personally think they are fairly consistent with own erotic sensitivity levels. How does this compare with your experience? In fact, compiled data strongly suggests that women tend to prefer vaginal intercourse with an anatomically complete penis over that with a circumcised penis. Fortunately for those of us who are 'non-anatomically complete' (i.e. circumcised), all hope is not lost. By understanding the mechanism and triggers behind sexual stimulation, we can actually learn from our uncut brethren new methods for increasing our partner's pleasure.

Facts About Circumcision

Before we delve into the science behind these findings, we should first understand the implications behind circumcision and just how far reaching they are. Circumcision is an operation that removes up to 50% of the penile skin and nearly all of the penile fine-touch neuroreceptors. It is the most commonly performed surgery in the United States and it is estimated that nearly 70% of the U.S. male population is currently circumcised. While the necessity of this surgery has been contested for decades, new research into the effects this procedure has on the act of sex itself has fueled even further debate.

The British Journal of Urology Study

As previously mentioned, results have clearly shown that the majority of women cite greater sexual pleasure during intercourse with an uncircumcised male. But what are the reasons for this? The following conclusions were based on a BJU survey (Adobe PDF 75kb) developed to determine the effect of male circumcision on a woman's ability to achieve vaginal orgasm:

"When the anatomically complete penis thrusts in the vagina, it does not slide, but rather glides on its own 'bedding' of movable skin… The underlying corpus cavernosa and corpus spongiosum slide within the penile skin, while the skin juxtaposed against the vaginal wall moves very little. This shealth-with-a-shealth alignment allows penile movement, and vaginal and penile stimulation, with minimal friction or loss of secretions. When the penile shaft is withdrawn slightly from the vagina, the foreskin bunches up behind the corona in a manner that allows the tip of the foreskin, which contains the highest density of fine-touch neuroreceptors in the penis, to contact the corona of the glans, which has the highest concentration of fine-touch neuroreceptors on the glans. This intense stimulation discourages the penile shaft from further withdrawal, explaining the short-thrusting style that women noted in their unaltered partners."

Take note of the 'short-thrusting style' mentioned, as this is a key element to increasing pleasure levels. The report goes on to say:

"…circumcision removes 33-50% of the penile skin. With this skin missing, there is less tissue for the swollen corpus cavernosa and corpus spongiosum to slide against. Instead, the skin of the circumcised penis rubs against the vaginal wall, increasing friction, abrasion and the need for artificial lubrication. Because of the tight penile skin, the corona of the glans, which is configured as a one-way valve, pulls the vaginal secretions out of the vagina when the shaft is withdrawn. Unlike the anatomically complete penis, there is no sensory input to limit withdrawal. Because the vast majority of the fine-touch receptors are missing from the circumcised penis, their role as ejaculatory triggers is also absent. The loss of these receptors creates an imbalance between the deep pressure sensed in the glans, corpus cavernosa and corpus spongiosum and the missing fine-touch. To compensate for this imbalance, to achieve orgasm, the circumcised man must stimulate the glans, corpus cavernosa and corpus spongiosum by thrusting deeply in and out of the vagina. As a result, coitus with a circumcised partner reduces the amount of vaginal secretions in the vagina, and decreases continual stimulation of the mons pubis and clitoris."

Understanding The Implications

Based on these findings, it can be understood that the actual mechanics of coitus (sexual intercourse) differs between circumcised and uncircumcised men due to the lack of penile neuroreceptors. Circumcised men without these fine-touch receptors tend to thrust harder and deeper using elongated strokes. By comparison, uncircumcised men tend to use shorter and more gentle thrusts which keep more contact with the mons pubis and clitoris. This method, at least for a large majority of women, seems to convey a much more pleasurable experience.

So what can we learn from this as circumcised men? Aside from undergoing risky and expensive foreskin restoration surgery, we are pretty much stuck with what we have. We can however take steps to improve the level of pleasure that is experienced by both ourselves and our partners.

Tips For Circumcised Men

As we tend to use longer thrusts for maximum stimulation, and this action creates both friction and dryness within the vagina, using adequate lubrication is a must. A natural lubricant like Durex or Astroglide will help ensure that the vagina stays moist and any discomfort will be minimized.

Perhaps even more importantly, we can directly modify the method that we use during intercourse itself. From personal experience I can attest that shorter thrusts while at full penetration seems to illicit the greatest pleasure response in women. Instead of withdrawing the full length of the penis during thrusts, try pushing fully into the vagina and use short strokes while maintaining pressure upon the clitoris. This technique will stimulate the entire female genital region and is the most effective way to induce orgasm (both single and multiple).

Pleasurable sex is, of course, not limited to one method alone. It should be comprised of a variety of different techniques – experimentation is half the fun. Let's also not forget that the pleasure derived is not solely for our partner's benefit but for ours as well. There's a reason why circumcised men tend to use longer and more forceful thrusts… because it feels good! So mix it up! There is no limit to the amount of pleasure that sex can bring. The only limitation that exists is our knowledge of the act and this can be improved with both study and practice.

When it comes to the topic of penis size, there is no shortage of peculiar beliefs. One of the more popular is the notion of a direct relationship between the penis and the size of various other external appendages. For example, many believe that a man with large feet or hands must somehow be inherently well-endowed. But is there any truth to this assumption or is it merely just another myth contained within the annals of penis folklore?

Although it's easy to understand why such a belief could exist, scientific research has pretty much discounted any such correlation between body parts and penis size. It's true that both penis and limb growth is dependent upon the same DNA while in the embryonic stage, but bodily development during early childhood and puberty is influenced by many other distinct genes and hormonal factors.

Professional studies have even been conducted to determine whether such a relationship could in fact exist. In one particular test published by the British Journal of Urology, a study was performed to establish whether the size of a man's penis can be estimated from his shoe size [see Can shoe size predict penile length?]. The results of the study concluded:

"…the ability to predict the size of a man's penis by observing his shoe size is a common misconception; the present study shows that there is no scientific support for the relationship."

Another study tested against a possible relationship between height, penile length and foot size and concluded:

"Penile length was found to be statistically related to both body height and foot length, but with weak correlation coefficients. Height and foot size would not serve as practical estimators of penis length."

In other words, unless you've got x-ray vision, you'd only be guessing. Not to mention you have no idea if the person has undergone any penis enhancement, natural or otherwise. In the end there's really no definite way of determining the size of a man's penis unless you actually have a look at it.

A vasectomy is a simple and highly effective surgical procedure that is performed with the purpose of making a man sterile. In other words, it takes away a man's ability to conceive children. While exact numbers are hard to come by, it has been estimated that some 50 million men worldwide have undergone this operation. Here we will look at some of the most commonly asked questions regarding vasectomies.

What Does A Vasectomy Do?

Vasectomies are intended to make one simple change to the male reproductive system – to stop sperm from moving from the testes to the penis. This is done by severing the two tubes through which sperm travels, otherwise known as the vas deferens. While the testes will still continue to produce sperm, the path they usually travel is no longer available. Since they have nowhere to go they simply die and are absorbed back into the body.

How Is The Procedure Performed?

A vasectomy is considered an outpatient procedure, meaning that the person is allowed to return home on the same day that the surgery is performed. It is commonly done in doctor's offices, clinics and hospitals.

You will begin by taking your clothes off and lying on an examination table. Sterile drapes will be placed over you to help prevent infection. You will be given local anesthetic injections in your scrotum or lower groin to prevent pain.

Once the anesthetic takes effect, two small incisions will be made with a scalpel or pointed clamp in the skin of the scrotum. Each of the vas deferens is lifted through the incision and severed (a small section may be removed). The cut ends are tied, clipped closed or cauterized together with heat. The incisions in the scrotum are then closed with one or more stitches.

Are There Possible Risks And Complications?

Even though a vasectomy is considered a minor procedure, problems can always occur. Things such as internal bleeding in the scrotum or infection will usually manifest symptoms within the first few days following surgery. Signs of increased pain or excessive swelling may indicate internal bleeding. If you have a fever, chills or notice drainage from the incision site then infection may have occurred. If you experience any of these symptoms or have other concerns you should immediately contact your doctor.

How Does It Affect Sexual Functioning?

Becoming sterile does not affect your ability to have erections or experience orgasms. These remain the same as before the procedure. Since the prostate and seminal vesicles continue to secrete the same amount of fluid, the ejaculate does not look or feel any different. Ejaculation occurs just as before except the resulting semen does not contain any sperm. The testes also continue to produce sperm and hormones so characteristics like body hair, voice pitch and sexual drive also remain unaffected.

Will Sterilization Cause Health Problems?

While it has been rumored that a vasectomy can cause all manner of health problems including heart disease and prostate cancer, there is no conclusive evidence that this is true. If you have any concerns your physician should be able to provide you with more information. Note: vasectomies do not protect you from sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Is Sterility Immediate?

Since some sperm still remains in the upper part of the reproductive system after a vasectomy, it takes several weeks and numerous ejaculations before the semen is completely free of sperm. It is therefore essential to continue some form of birth control until after your doctor tells you that your sperm count is zero. To be certain no sperm are left in your semen, a postoperative semen exam will be performed usually about 3 months after surgery. This entails bringing a sample of semen from home into the lab. When these samples show no evidence of sperm, you are considered sterile.

How Long Before I Can Have Sex?

For about a week following the operation, the scrotum may appear bruised and swollen and you may feel slight pain in the area. You may also notice a small bloody discharge from the incision site. While this is perfectly normal it is certainly not conducive to love-making. Your doctor will tell you when you have recovered enough to resume sexual intercourse.

In the meantime there are some things you can do to help aid in recovery. Try to stay off your feet as much as possible for the first few days to lessen swelling. You can also use ice to reduce any swelling. Avoid any heavy lifting or physical exercise for at least 5 days following surgery.

Is A Vasectomy Permanent?

While vasectomy reversal surgery does exist, a vasectomy should generally be considered a permanent procedure. There are no guaranties that it can be reversed later and the reversal surgery becomes less likely to be successful as the years go by. For this reason, it is vital that you have all the facts and understand all the implications associated with this operation. Are you certain that you will never want to conceive any more children, under all circumstances? It is an important decision that both you and your partner should make because it may be final.
