As many men are unfortunately aware, premature ejaculation is a sexual dysfunction in which a man ejaculates earlier than either he or his partner would like. Most men will experience this condition at least once in their lifetime and some estimates suggest that between 25%-40% of men in the United States alone suffer from it regularly. While until recently premature ejaculation was commonly attributed to either psychological or physiological factors, new theory calls for a greater integration of these two elements and supports an expanded range of classification for this common male sexual condition.

The Four Classifications of PE (Premature Ejaculation)

Although premature ejaculation is a frequent sexual complaint from males, the occurrence of PE is not always the result of purely mental or physical factors. A newly proposed classification system separates the condition into four specific syndromes; lifelong PE, acquired PE, natural variable PE and premature-like ejaculatory dysfunction.

Each syndrome is distinguished by certain specific variables:

Duration of IELT (Intravaginal Ejaculation Latency Time) – this is the amount of time it takes from actual vaginal penetration until ejaculation occurs

Frequency of PE complaint

How PE progresses over time

The underlying cause of the disorder [Etiology]

The actual physiological changes that occur due to the disorder [Pathophysiology]

Recommended Treatment of PE

Lifelong PE
For men with lifelong PE, ejaculation usually occurs within 1 minute of penetration. Men under this classification have experienced premature ejaculation starting with their very first sexual encounter and the condition has persisted ever since. It is believed to be a mainly biological disorder and the use of drug treatment is required to delay ejaculation.

Acquired PE
Acquired PE, also called secondary premature ejaculation, describes a condition in which PE did not always exist but developed at some point in time. The cause may be either physiological or psychological (or both). Suggested treatment involves specific counseling, or in the case of an actual biological disorder such as thyroid or urological disease, medical treatment may be necessary.

Natural Variable PE
Men with natural variable PE only experience early ejaculations occasionally. Since there is no indication that an occasional occurrence of premature ejaculation is either related to psychological or physiological disorder, it is assumed that this condition is only a manifestation of normal ejaculatory performance. The treatment for those men who fit into the natural variable PE classification is generally limited to counseling.

Premature-like Ejaculatory Dysfunction
Premature-like ejaculatory dysfunction is the classification for those men who complain of rapid ejaculation yet have normal IELT (3-7 minutes) or even longer IELTs (10-25 minutes). Since these IELTs adhere to what is largely considered normal intercourse duration time and there is no evidence of physiological disturbance, it is very likely that this syndrome has either psychological or cultural origins. For men experiencing this condition, treatment with medicine is not recommended. Instead, counseling or psychological therapy designed to help them cope with their complaints should be pursued.

In a recent study† to determine the prevalence of these four PE syndromes among patients admitted to a urology outpatient clinic, it was concluded that the majority of patients who seek treatment for premature ejaculation fit into the classification of lifelong PE. It should be noted that the results of this particular study only suggest that most men who actually seek treatment are classified as lifelong PE sufferers. The percentage of men correlating with the other three premature ejaculation syndromes and who never seek treatment may be significantly higher.

Source:†Journal of Sexual Medicine / DOI 10.1111/j.1743-6109.2009.01570.x

Dealing with Premature Ejaculation

The new classification system for PE reveals that are many different variations of premature ejaculation to consider. Some instances of PE are caused by an actual biological disorder and require medical attention while others are more likely related to psychological issues. Regardless of the exact root cause of the condition, the end result is ultimately an undesired effect on male sexual performance.

In many cases where men feel they're not performing to their full ability and would like to increase the length of time before ejaculation occurs, there are simple techniques available that can help improve IELT. Penis exercises for instance, specifically those that target premature ejaculation, provide an easy and inexpensive way to help increase sexual endurance.

Another excellent method used to combat PE is through the use of a specially designed penile traction device. These devices can help prevent premature ejaculation and also offer the added benefit of increasing overall penis size.

While these techniques are not meant to replace medical treatment in those cases where an actual physiological pathology exists, they can be helpful for the large percentage of men who simply wish to prolong intercourse through better ejaculation control. As always, it is best to consult a physician for advice if you believe the severity of your condition warrants medical attention.

Edging is a term commonly associated with a specific masturbation practice. It describes a technique whereby an individual masturbates until just before the point of climax (the "edge") and then ceases all stimulation to prevent orgasm. While mastering this "sexual balancing act" requires considerable training, this method of delaying ejaculation can be highly beneficial.

The primary reason for performing this exercise is to learn how to better control the body's natural impulses. Anyone with sexual experience knows just how difficult it can be to resist the temptation to orgasm. This is especially true for men who suffer from premature ejaculation. Practicing this technique allows men to recognize "the point of no return" and overcome their normal impulses.

Although the actual physical technique varies from one practitioner to the next, the concept is fairly straightforward. You begin by stroking the penis as you normally might during a masturbation session. After a period of time you will find yourself becoming more aroused and eventually you will reach a point where you feel that you are about to ejaculate. Just prior to actual ejaculation you should stop masturbating until the overwhelming desire has subsided. After a short period of time you begin the cycle again.

If you've never tried this technique before, your first few attempts may fail. Even stopping stimulation completely may not prevent the orgasm from occurring. With time and practice however, you should be able to mentally prevent ejaculation while still maintaining contact with the penis. This may require an adjustment in the speed or strength of your stroke. Another method is to grasp and squeeze the base of the penis just prior to ejaculation.

In addition to increasing control, this practice also helps to heighten the eventual orgasm. Each time you prevent ejaculation from happening your body continues to produce and store more semen. The strength of your ejaculation and volume of your ejaculate when you finally release will be noticeably increased. As there is a greater amount of semen to expel, the duration of the orgasm will also be lengthened.

While not considered to be an enlargement exercise per se, edging can be used in conjunction with specific penis stretches for added benefit. Jelqing in particular uses a "milking" motion that lends itself well to this sort of method. Keep in mind, all penis enlargement exercises require that ejaculation be avoided therefore extra care must be taken when combining techniques.

Overall, edging is a fantastic way to get in touch with both the psychological and physical processes that control your body. Through practice you will gain more control over your ejaculation and ultimately enhance the sexual experience.

The term "Tao" is defined as meaning "The Natural Way." The ancient Taoist philosophy grew out of a desire to prolong life – in short, it was a quest for achieving immortality. It wasn't until many centuries later that it grew into the religion that exists today.

The original Taoist's teachings primary concern was with the preservation of health and the prolonging of life. The methods they developed led to the creation of the Chinese system of Qigong (pronounced Chi Gung) which means "energy exercises." These advanced techniques were soon extended to sexual enhancement based on the belief that male semen was the source of Chi (energy) and life itself.

The first known references to these sexual exercises dates back to the teachings of Huang Ti (commonly known as the "Yellow Emporer") called, "The Yellow Emporer's Classic of Internal Medicine" (Huang Ti Nei Ching) believed to have been written nearly 6,000 years ago. Huang Ti is considered to be one of the founding fathers of ancient Taoist philosophy.

Naturally Enhancing The Sexual Organs

Taoism was the first philosophy to take human sexuality fully into account and to present it in such a way that people could transform themselves using their use own sexual energy. Specific exercises were created to strengthen and enhance the sexual organs in order to counter the normal energy-depleting effects of having sex. These methods work to increase blood circulation in the abdomen which in turn transports nutrients and energy carried in the semen throughout the entire body.

Some exercises help to improve ejaculation control, increase semen output and prolong sexual intercourse. This is made possible by strengthening the prostate and generating and balancing secretions of the endocrine (hormonal) glands.

During ordinary intercourse the prostate swells with semen to maximize size before ejaculating. During ejaculation, the prostate shoots out its contents in a series of contractions and sexual intercourse ends. With nothing left to ejaculate, induce contractions, or maintain an erection, a man cannot continue to have sex. When specific exercises are practiced, semen can be pumped out of the prostate in small doses to other glands and blood vessels and intercourse can be prolonged.

Strengthening The Prostate

Success with this type of exercise is achieved by strengthening the anal muscles and rectum. As people grow older, the anal opening tends to become loose. This is caused by the loss of nerve-use that controls the anus and results in serious bowel problems. Anal muscles which have atrophied and become weak create an environment for diseases such as hemorrhoids and prostate cancer. Exercising and keeping these muscles strong is therefore crucial to a person's health.

The prostate, which lies between the anal muscles and the scrotum is exercised and strengthened by contracting the sphincter muscles. This action helps to prevent or even reverse many diseases associated with the prostate.

Enhanced Sexual Ability

The ancient Taoist technique which we will cover next is used to build up a man's sexual ability and enable him to prolong intercourse for as long as he wishes. It should be noted that those practicing these powerful techniques often experience an increase in sexual energy. The common tendency is therefore to increase the quantity of sex. As with all things however, when taken to excess, this can lead to weakness and depletion of energy. Leading a normal and active sex life requires replacing the energy which was lost.

In the upcoming article we will look at step by step instructions for one particular Taoist sexual exercise. When used properly, this technique will help to build up energy reserves within the body, increase semen output and improve one's overall sexual ability.

The penis and all its various functions are intricately tied to both the physiological and psychological health of the male sex. Men are only afforded one penis in their lifetime so the importance of keeping it healthy and strong cannot be understated. Here we will take a look at the main purposes that the penis serves as well as the benefits gained from it's proper care.

The penis serves the following primary functions:

Urination purposes. The penis functions as an extension of the urethra which permits waste matter excreted by the kidneys to leave the body.

Sexual purposes. The penis, specifically in it's erect state, is designed to provide sexual pleasure for both the male and female. This pleasurable feeling is in fact a causal mechanism to bring about the following primary goal.

Reproductive purposes. Probably the most important role that the penis serves is in reproduction. This role begins the moment a man's penis penetrates a female's vagina and deposits sperm within her womb. As a result, procreation ensues and the continuation of the human race is assured.

Maintaining a healthy and strong penis is not only important for the above mentioned biological processes but also for psychological reasons. A weak and dysfunctional penis can lead to low self-esteem issues whereas having a powerful and healthy member will boost self-confidence. This is often revealed in the control and range a man exhibits during sexual relations and more often than not leads to greater sexual satisfaction.

Some of the benefits that come from having a stronger and healthier penis include:

A more satisfying and healthy sex life.

Improved overall confidence in all areas of life.

Enhanced erection strength and the eradication of impotence and erectile dysfunction.

Increased sensation and sensitivity during sexual intercourse.

Better ejaculation control and increased sexual stamina.

Keeping the penis strong and healthy is something that all men should strive for. Whether you're looking for enhancement through natural penis enlargement methods or simply to maintain a current healthy state, always remember that you and your penis share a life-long commitment and only you can control the quality of that relationship.

One of the most common sexual problems experienced by men is premature ejaculation. Alfred C. Kinsey, often called the father of sexology, is famous for conducting a string of sexual studies from 1948 to 1953. During this time he discovered that more than 50 percent of the time men had sex, three quarters would ejaculate within the first 2 minutes of penetration. It is further estimated that 30 percent of all men are unable to control their ejaculation in most sexual encounters. These huge percentages show just how much of a problem premature ejaculation is not only for men but the problem it creates for both partners. Sex is supposed to be a pleasurable activity and no one wants it to end too quickly.

The majority of premature ejaculation sufferers are young men who usually have less control over their bodies and less experience with sexual encounters. While nearly every man has at times found himself unable to control his ejaculation, it is most likely to happen during his first sexual encounter where his lack of experience makes it almost impossible to hold back. For a great many men however, premature ejaculation can be very severe and will not go away on its own but persists well into adulthood. This problem tends to not only affect the physical condition but has psychological repercussions as well, often creating low self esteem issues and triggering depression.

Although one root cause of premature ejaculation is clearly a lack of experience, other contributing factors include a weak PC muscle and a faster than usual neurological response in the pelvic muscles. All of these causes can be remedied however. Inexperience can be cured with, well more sex! The muscles located in the pelvic area can also be trained to stop acting on their own just like any other muscle in the body can be trained. The PC muscle (pubococcygeus muscle) is the floor to the entire pelvic region and provides the bottom support for all the organs. It is also responsible for controlling ejaculation. By performing specific exercises (called PC Flexes), this muscle can be trained and strengthened to help men achieve control over their orgasms.

When full control over this muscle is achieved, premature ejaculation is no longer a problem. Many penis exercises such as Kegels and Flexes focus on ejaculation control at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. A good natural enlargement program like PenisHealth contains many such exercises for just this purpose. The key to ending premature ejaculation is really to have confidence in yourself and in your strength to overcome it.
