As much as medical science has advanced over the years, penis enlargement surgery remains a risky procedure that is fraught with many dangers and potential post operation complications. This is true of all penis augmentation procedures even when the most qualified of surgeons is performing the operation. It is therefore almost mind-boggling to learn that there are men who not only decide to undergo penile surgery but who actually attempt to operate on themselves! As crazy as this sounds, there are reports of men performing what can only be called "self-surgery" on their own penises.

Penile Self-Surgery

Self-mutilation may be a more accurate description for this disturbing practice. According to an article† published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, there have been several reported cases of men injecting fillers into their penis in an attempt at do-it-yourself penile augmentation.

The product, marketed under the name "1Super Extenze" (not to be confused with the Extenze Pills of TV infomercial notoriety), is apparently a composition of mineral oil and vitamin E which is designed to be injected directly into the penis. This can obviously lead to all sorts of medical problems, not to mention disfigurement, which then requires additional surgical intervention to repair.

"Injection of '1Super Extenze' into the penile shaft results in sclerosing lipogranulomas, which can cause severe sexual and urinary complications. Surgical resection of all grossly involved tissue with appropriate reconstruction can mitigate these problems. This series supports previous recommendations in the literature that men should avoid the use of non-medical foreign bodies and fillers as means of penile augmentation."

Source:†Journal of Sexual Medicine / DOI: 10.1111/j.1743-6109.2010.01980.x

Penis Injections

You may be wondering why any man would willingly inject a foreign substance into his own penis. The truth is that this type of treatment is in fact already used in some surgical penis augmentation procedures. It is primarily used for girth enlargement and involves the injection of fat or synthetic compounds into the penis in order to increase its thickness.

Keep in mind, even when performed in a sterile environment under professional supervision this type of treatment can still be dangerous. With cases of severe post-op complications being reported after having undergone penis girth injections, this specific procedure is certainly nothing to take lightly. It's also not to be attempted by self-proclaimed amateur surgeons looking for a quick fix to increase the size of their penis!

The unscrupulous behavior and negligence exhibited by the manufacturers of these self-injection kits is absolutely appalling. They cunningly appeal to those men seeking an easy solution to penis enlargement by using half-baked medical concepts to lure in trusting customers.

Let me be straightforward here – Injecting mineral oil into your penis will not increase its size. It can however lead to serious medical complications resulting in penile deformity or worse.

Whether performed by a surgeon or self-administered, penis enlargement injections remain a dangerous and unreliable practice. There are already several effective and safe home treatments that can significantly improve penis size and which won't compromise your health. Remember you only have one penis… don't take unnecessary risks that you will come to regret later!

For the vast majority of men looking to increase the size of their penis, penile enlargement surgery remains a mostly non-viable option. In addition to being cost-prohibitive (penile surgery can run into the thousands of dollars), it also poses the risks and dangers inherent to all surgical procedures including, but not limited to, excessive blood loss and possible infection. As if this wasn't enough to dissuade most potential candidates, new evidence now suggests additional unforeseen complications that can arise after the completion of an otherwise "successful" operation has been conducted.

Girth Injections: Post-Op Complications

A new report† published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine outlines some of the delayed complications associated with one surgical method of girth enlargement. This particular procedure involves injecting either fat or synthetic materials directly into the penis in order to increase the thickness of the shaft.

While this method of penis girth augmentation is not entirely new, the long term effects this type of operation has on the body are still not well understood. The above mentioned report documents one patient's experience with injection therapy and the resulting deformed subcutaneous mass that had to be excised from his penis.

Known Complications

Foreign body migration

Granulomatous reaction

Resorption of tissue

Although this specific patient's condition was successfully corrected (i.e. the mass removed), his story still serves as a stark reminder of just how fragile and susceptible the human body is. Injecting external substances into the body in order to increase penis size is both dangerous and foolish. Not only does it put your health at risk, the possible side effects could potentially endanger your life itself.

Even with all the risks involved, it's a sad fact that every year sees a new group of men undergoing surgical penis augmentation. Most simply don't understand the ramifications or are unaware of other alternative natural therapies.

In reality, increasing girth (thickness) through the use of a specialized penis extender device is a far less intrusive solution, infinitely cheaper to accomplish and poses no extreme health risks whatsoever. You can learn more about the fundamentals of this process in our article entitled "How Penis Extenders Increase Width."

It is my hope that in the future more men will explore their options before committing to drastic procedures such as penile injection therapy. Could you live without your penis? Ask yourself that before you decide to go under the knife because that could very well be the consequence of your actions.

The majority of men are stubborn and pigheaded – just ask any woman. When our minds are set on achieving a particular goal, odds are that we will do anything it takes even if it poses a significant risk to our own well-being. For those seeking to undergo penis enlargement surgery, it's important to understand that the consequences of this choice not only affects yourself but can also have a direct and significant impact upon your partner/spouse.

We recently received a correspondence from a concerned wife dealing with just such an issue:

"My husband wants to have penis enlargement surgery and I don't want him to. It would be nice if he were larger but I don't want him to hurt himself. What is the side effect of this treatment? Can he lose sensation?"

Any type of surgical procedure comes with certain risks and dangers. In the case of penile surgery, the risks far outweigh the benefits. Scarring, loss of sensation, inability to become erect – these are all possible side effects of undergoing such an operation. You can learn more specifics in the various articles contained in the penile surgery section.

Aside from all the potential dangers, it's also a very expensive operation that can cost upwards of $5000 (depending on the particular procedure).

Wanting a larger penis is a common desire for men – many women also wish that their partners were larger in that department as well. But is undergoing surgery an acceptable proposition? I don't believe that it is.

There are several all-natural methods that can and will increase length and thickness. These techniques are far less intrusive, do not cost very much and represent no hazard to male health and sexual functioning.

One company, called SizeGenetics™, manufactures a system that combines several methods including specific exercises and a special traction device that elongates and thickens the penis over time. For more information about this program be sure to read the full SizeGenetics review.

This is a natural method that is proven to work. It will show results with dedicated use – it's guaranteed to. It is not, however, an overnight miracle solution. It takes time and dedication for gains to be made. Unfortunately most men have an "I want it now" mentality and are not willing to actually put forth the effort needed to see the results.

My advice for those that are troubled by a loved one's insistence on undergoing penile surgery is to try to make them aware of the possible perils associated with the procedure. There is plenty of information on our website (and elsewhere) that explains these dangers in detail.

If he is truly interested in penis enlargement, ask him to try a natural system like the one referenced above. It may be a few months before he notices an improvement in size, but ultimately it poses no threat. I'm sure that after he follows the program and sees the improvement he will thank you for both your concern and advice.

SizeGenetics Update:

We recently received word that SizeGenetics will make an appearance in an upcoming issue of GQ Magazine. According to our source, one of the writers at GQ has been testing the program and will be relating his experiences to readers. While the penis enlargement device is still far from mainstream, this is definitely a positive step in bringing such legitimate and effective treatments into the greater public awareness. We will be monitoring this development closely so be sure to check back for updates!

The first surgical procedures performed on the penis began back in the 1980's. Originally these operations were used to correct physical defects, deformities and other anomalies of the penis. Over the years, the term "penis surgery" has become more commonly associated with cosmetic techniques used to increase the length and width of the penis itself. Here we'll examine a brief history of penile surgery and how various surgical enlargement procedures came into practice.

Phalloplasty, the technical term referring to artificial re-constructive modification of the penis, first began as a surgical remedy for a medical condition known as "micropenis." This congenital defect results in an abnormally small penis (less than 6 centimeters) and affects only a very small percentage of the male population. In subsequent years, the procedures and techniques involved in the surgery were redefined to focus specifically on increasing the length of the penis for purely cosmetic reasons.

Penis Lengthening

The refinement of penis lengthening procedures is largely credited to a surgeon from China named Long Daochao. Dr. Daochao's contribution involved severing the suspensory ligament that anchors the penis to the body. This was done in order to allow the penis to drop more down and forward thereby increasing the amount of shaft that projects outside of the body. While not actually increasing the length of the penis, this technique does give the appearance of making the penis longer.

Penis Widening

Not too long afterwards, a man by the name of Richardo Samitier began work on a specific technique designed to increase the thickness of the penis. A surgeon from Miami Florida, Dr. Samitier previously specialized in lip enlargements before shifting his focus to penis enlargement. His technique involved the use of liposuction to transfer fat from another part of the body and inject it directly underneath the skin of the penis. Although this technique did effectively increase width, it was plagued by problems involving the migration of fatty deposits which often resulted in misshapen penises.

Dermal Fat Grafts

To avoid fat migration, later refinements of this technique replaced pure fat injections with dermal fat grafts. This involves removing two narrow strips of flesh from a patient's abdomen or buttocks, sewing them together, and inserting the pieces beneath the skin through an incision near the penis head.

While this proved to be more effective at creating a smoother penis texture then when using pure fat injections alone, it can leave thick scarring on the penis and in the area where the flesh was originally removed.

Alloderm Grafts

The latest and most common method used today to increase penis thickness is to insert tissue harvested from cadavers beneath the skin of the penis. Called Alloderm Grafts, this technique is meant to avoid unnecessary scarring on the body and reduce the possibility of fat lumping by allowing blood cells to generate new tissue which is more naturally incorporated into the body.

The effectiveness of this technique is still questioned by many surgeons who believe the tissue will never properly amalgamate into the body. To date the FDA has still not approved the use of this harvested tissue.

Penis surgery has evolved quite a bit from the early days but there remains much skepticism in the medical community regarding its use for cosmetic enhancement. Although many surgeons still refuse to consider using such techniques on patients, there are others that specialize in the procedure. Incidentally, there are those who specialize in the repairing of botched operations. Regardless, surgical procedures designed to increase penis size are still being performed on men from around the world even today.

Basically phalloplasty consists of two separate procedures: one to increase the length of the penis and another to increase the girth or thickness.

Surgical lengthening of the penis is accomplished by cutting the ligament that supports erections. This allows the penis to extend forward and outward, exposing some of the penis that is normally hidden inside the body. The downside of this procedure is that the ligament which forces the penis to point upward in a normal erection can no longer do so and erections will then point downward.

Increasing penile girth surgically, on the other hand, is a much more complicated process. Girth, or thickness, is increased through several types of procedures including Alloderm Graft, Fat Transfer, and Dermal Augmentation. These methods involve harvesting fat cells or strips of tissue from other parts of the body and inserting or grafting this flesh directly to the penis.

It should be noted that these techniques often bring about unwanted complications and side effects. These may include infections, bleeding, bruising, painful scarring, reduced angle of erection making the penis susceptible to injury, re-absorption of fat cells leading to penile shortening, asymmetry and deformities, soft erections, permanent numbness, loss of sexual function, and impotence.

Aside from the inherent dangers and risks involved with phalloplasty, penile surgery is also very expensive. The costs associated with these various types of cosmetic penis augmentations can run anywhere from $3,000 to as much as $10,000.

Further complicating the issue, many times the size gained from surgery may be lost as a result of post-operative complications or improper post-operative care. Sometimes men who have had unsuccessful procedures will end up spending large sums of money on further cosmetic surgery in an attempt to restore their penis, oftentimes without success.

It is always advisable to seek out a natural method of enlarging your penis before committing to phalloplasty. While natural penis enlargement may be a more involved and time consuming solution, it is a far less expensive and infinitely safer route.

Many men are obsessed when it comes to the size of their penis. Even though there is nothing physically wrong with it they still wish they had a larger one. More and more frequently men are turning to penile enlargement surgery in hopes of curing what they consider to be a depressingly cruel genetic circumstance.

While most of us would probably shudder at the prospect of having a surgeons blade at our most precious of possessions, there is no shortage of men willing to undergo surgery just for the chance that it will help them improve their sex life.

Traditionally, penile augmentation surgery uses the technique of removing fatty tissue from an area of the patients body and re-inserting that fat into the penis. Often these fat cells are taken from grafts from the patients buttocks. What most don't realize is that over time the increase in size they had obtained is likely to diminish as the fatty tissues are reabsorbed back into the patients own body.

While there have been some advancements made in penile surgery techniques, there still are a number of problems often associated with it. Some times lumps are formed in the penis do to the migration of fat. Instead of the results hoped for, a man may find that fat injections create lumpy, asymmetrical and unappealing results. Injected fat can migrate to surrounding areas and cause the penis to appear misshapen.

Penis shortening can also happen when scar tissue forms after the operation and begins to toughen and shrink. Sometimes the penile supporter, called the suspensory ligaments are severed to make the penis "appear" to hang longer and this can result in a downward pointing erection. Being under a general anesthetic for a long period of time also incurs certain risks, not to mention excessive bleeding and possible infection. After all these potential risks, probably the least of your worries should be the price tag associated with it which happens to run upwards of $8000. So many "cons" and not a "pro" in sight!

With so many alternative methods that are infinitely safer and less expensive, why would any man subject himself to such a procedure? Some of the newest natural methods of penis enlargement like exercise techniques (or "traction devices" for the more stalwart) are certainly better options than surgery. These are not overnight miracle cures and you won't go to sleep and wake up with a new penis… but you also don't have to worry about waking up to a nightmarish disfigurement! Maybe someday someone will invent a thing that instantly grows your member but for now hard work, dedication and patience is the surest and safest bet if you want a bigger penis.
