Penis Augmentation Surgery

While most men would never admit to it, many have probably given some thought to penile enlargement surgery. Whether out of curiosity, self-consciousness, embarrassment, or a secret longing to be exceptionally well-hung, men very commonly seek information about surgery to increase the length and girth of their penis.

In fact, a study of the top searches online shows "penis enlargement surgery" to be consistently among the most popular information requests. And as anyone who has made such a search can tell you, there are plenty of men who not only wonder about it, but who have actually gone through with this major surgical procedure. Still others have chosen alternative methods to get a bigger penis without surgery.

History Of Penile Enlargement Surgery

In the late 1980's a chinese surgeon named Long Daochao was the first to develop a surgical procedure to lengthen the penis. Within a few years penis augmentation surgery began to gain momentum. This was however without the monitoring or endorsement of the American Board of Plastic Surgery or the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. Many men sought out this surgury even though it had no kind of professional organization's safety and quality guidelines governing the procedure.

Those original methods, which subsequently have not really changed much over the years, involved the first surgical attempts to lengthen the penis and increase girth. Even though this cosmetic penis enlargement surgery was new and somewhat radical, there was no shortage of men willing to take the risk. Apparently while those first few patients thought they needed a larger penis, they surely weren't lacking in BALLS!

How Penis Enlargement Surgery Works

There are currently two common procedures used to enlarge the penis. The first method involves the surgeon cutting the suspensory ligament that anchors the penis to the body, allowing it to drop down and forward. This procedure allows the portion of the penis that is normally held inside the body cavity to stretch outward thus giving the appearance of more length. Technically the penis is not so much "lengthened" as it is uncovered or released from the body.

In the second method which is used to increase girth, fat cells are harvested from the man's body, usually from the buttocks or legs, and then injected into the penis to create a thicker shaft. More recently, surgeons have begun to refine this method and now use materials other than fat as the implants. Grafts of tissue from the man's body or even from donor cadavers are now used to widen and enhance the penis.

Risks, Results And Costs Of Penis Surgery

Outcomes of early penis enlargement surgeries were often disastrous: many men were rendered impotent or disfigured, coming from surgery with freakishly shaped, red, raw or in the worst case, terminally limp penises.

If you are like most men, the thought of actually undergoing any of these procedures is usually too much to handle. For some however, the desire to enlarge their manhood is almost overwhelming. Current estimates put the number of how many men have undergone this penis enlargement surgery at around 18,000.

Even after years of practice this surgery is still considered somewhat risky and only a relatively small number of surgeons will actually perform it. Presently there are only about 30 surgeons in the U.S. who will perform the procedure, and usually only once patients who have demonstrated that they are mature, emotionally stable and have submitted to counseling prior to the surgery.

While today's surgeons have more knowledge and experience in performing these procedures, many critics still question the reliability and safety of the operation. The ligament-cutting method may create a gain of an inch or two in length, but it carries the risk of total loss of support of the erect penis. A surgically severed suspensory ligament can also cause erections to point downward, or even cause total loss of sensation and impotency.

The fat-injection method to increase penis girth can create lumpy, asymmetrical and unappealing results. Once injected, the fat can migrate unpredictably. Sometimes it bunches at the center of the shaft, creating a strange, football-shaped member. Other times, the fat randomly lumps up so the penis appears blobby and irregularly shaped. Often, fat will reabsorb irregularly, so that over time the built-up girth is lost in some places more than others. Furthermore, fat injections almost always feel soft, similar to female breast tissue, even when the penis itself is erect.

Even though the risks have decreased somewhat, the cost of the penis procedure certainly has not: penis enlargement surgery currently runs an average of $8,000.

Who Is A Penis Enlargement Surgery For?

Even after considering all the risks, many men still elect to undergo penile surgery. How do you determine whether this is the right choice for you?

First, a candidate should be in excellent shape, both physically and mentally. A doctor can assess overall health, and then determine whether other health concerns preclude the procedure (high blood pressure, history of urogenital problems, etc.) and make recommendations for counselling or medication if necessary.

Next, it's always wise to thoroughly study any cosmetic procedure, particularly focusing on individual doctors and their results.

Finally, only the prospective patient himself can measure how deeply he is affected by concerns about his penis. Risks and costs must be weighed against the possible benefits, and as always, keeping a realistic view is essential. Men who envision having a huge penis that women would drool over must first understand that their results may not match what they had in mind.

Alternatives To Penis Enlargement Surgery

In recent years, the all-or-nothing nature of penis augmentation has changed. Instead of being forced to choose between risky surgery and learning how to make up for their lack of size in other ways, men now have a whole range of supplements and natural enhancements to choose from. Virtually risk-free, these products have been tested and proven by doctors to enhance virility and performance. These safe natural alternatives have an incredible success rate, and are becoming a very popular alternative to risking impotence from surgery.

Enhancement Pills

Just as the preoccupation with a large penis has been around for ages, so too have the ingredients in these products been around for many centuries. Ancient Chinese herbals blended with other naturally derived botanicals and ingredients delivers a powerful list of beneficial penis enhancing effects.

What is new however, is the technology for creating and delivering the ingredients in a purified, accurate formula. Some pills for example are manufactured in a pharmaceutical-grade laboratory, using the exact blend of ingredients and amounts to create better erections, increased sensitivity, longer staying power and stronger overall sexual health. There are also "penis patch products" that work to create the same male potency effects as pills but in a transdermal application. Simply apply the patch and start enjoying the benefits without having to worry about taking pills.

Another very popular new product addresses a related area in which men often feel inadequate: the amount and quality of ejaculate they produce. Semen volumizer pills, an oral supplement, also consists of all-natural ingredients and works to increase the volume of semen, the vigor of sperm, and the strength of orgasms.

Penis Enlargement Devices

One particular method of natural enlargement that has advanced rapidly over the last several years is penile traction therapy. This treatment involves the use of a special penis extender device that forces tissues to expand and grow by applying persistent stretching force directly to the penis. There are in fact several case studies that confirm the effectiveness of this method:

Do Not Rush Into Penis Surgery

If you'd like to find out more about penis augmentation surgery, consult your physician. Before committing to anything as risky and expensive as surgery, you need to do as much research and learn as much information about it as you can. Only by having all the information in front of you can you decide if surgery is right for you.

If you still have doubts then you may prefer to try natural methods first, which are far less committing (and safer). Studies show that these products work for most men and they are definitely worth trying out before committing to surgery. Each method has its own effects on the body and some men find better results with one particular method over another.

Whatever your decision, information is the key. Read up on the subject, and rely on your research to help guide you. If you're still unsure, go the natural route - your body will thank you!
